He's Got a Ticket to Ride

Isn't it fun as parents to see little dreams come true for our kids? As I've mentioned earlier, Aedan has recently become excited about The Polar Express, in part because he is a big fan of trains, and also because he is starting to really get excited about all this Christmas stuff. For the past few years I have gone to the Monticello Lunch with Santa on the Train event and I think it becomes more magical for me every year. This year we had the pleasure of going with our friends and neighbors at The Peterson Post and we had a grand time! To set the stage, imagine a silent light snowfall on a beautiful sunny day...

The train pulls into the station, breathing a sigh of steam at the anxious crowd. The conductor takes your ticket and welcomes you on board.

Children and adults alike cannot help but smile as they find their seats and wait for departure.

This is Santa's train and you can feel the excitement in the air!

The passenger car has been dressed for the occasion - tinsel and stockings were hung with pretty red bows.

Even a few passengers outwardly display their Christmas spirit!

The conductor directs traffic at the back of the car while little ones gather up courage to be near him.

The elves busy themselves with attending to the humans - food and drink are given to all and all the while Christmas carols are sung throughout the car.

Santa Claus is Comin' to Town! The conductor slides open the door and through it walks the jolliest man on earth!

Most passengers are thrilled to spend time with Santa - others are only partially thrilled.

Reluctantly, the train returns to the station. The passengers take one last look at the train that brought them so much joy, the train that brought them to Santa.

There are many sounds that remind us of Christmas - for us, the whistle of the train will remind us of that happy day spent with Santa!

But look! Can it be! Trumpets and tubas in the distance! The marching beat of the drums move our feet and we are drawn to a Christmas parade!

Candy soon litter the streets and soon afterwards fill our pockets. Even Kung Fu Panda is in a giving mood and shares his fortune cookies.

The next time you see a septic vehicle dressed as a giant mouse complete with mouse droppings trailing behind, think of Christmas. Not the other way around.

One last chance to wave to Santa Claus and then the day is complete! Merry Christmas To All!

  3. This looks fun. They have something like that here but you have to get tickets a year in advance. This made me want to plan ahead for next year.
